Prints FAQ
1. What is a Giclée print?
- Pronounced "jhee clay" , it is the highest form of fine-art printing, digitally printed by inkjet. It is used by artists and galleries using fade resistant archival inks for the best representations of their originals works.
2. What kind of paper is the print made on
- Hahnemuhle 100% acid free archival cotton rag paper is amongst the high-end range of unique, high-quality Fine Art inkjet papers made by the Hahnemuhle company in Germany which began in 1584!
- The paper produces bright colours, deep blacks, excellent contrast, outstanding reproduction of detail and striking pictorial depth.
- With a resistance to ageing of more than 100 years, the inkjet media in the Fine Art Print Collection are perfect for fine art applications such as fine art prints, special editions, long-term exhibitions and art collections.
- And to top all that off all papers made by Hahnemuhle are certified as Vegan!
3. How should my print be framed?
- Upon arrival your print should remain in its mailer for protection until it goes to the framer.
- If in a tube mailer please either take to the framer directly or allow the rolled print to flatten out by itself over a few days, and handle with care!
- Some prints are standard A4, A3 or A2 sizes and can be framed in ready-to-frame store bought frames. Please allow your print a few days to flatten before framing yourself.
- For attaching your print to a mat or backing board, use an archival acid free tape to prevent damage and yellowing ( avoid general purpose sticky tape!). For sealing the back of the frame to keep out dust and insects, use a water-activated or self-adhesive brown Kraft paper tape.
-
Others are in non standard sizes and so will need to be professionally framed. Please make use of your local community framer and allow them to advise you of the best way to show the artwork, they are the professionals.

I frame all my original works using natural Tasmanian Oak.
- For my Watercolour paintings on paper I personally frame in the same Tasmanian Oak, with an off white matt board, and Art Glass. This is a special type of framing glass which is UV resistant and is non reflective. I highly recommend using this glass, though it does cost a bit more.
