Sculpture FAQ

1. Are your sculptures real Bronze?

  • Yes all sculptures marked as Bronze are the real deal, lost wax cast in the ancient techniques, by hand, with molten metal. The bronze used is a special alloy for sculptures called Silicone Bronze. It is highly prized for its exceptional corrosion resistance, strength, and smooth castable finish.

2. Do you cast the bronze in the studio?

  • no, sadly this technique is one I send out for casting to a highly experienced specialist foundry. The good side is the castings are extremely well done and superior in finish. The downside is the timeframe, as this outsourcing means the time to deliver on an order is in the 4-5 months area.

3. What about the bases?

  • Marina makes all the bases herself, using techniques in timber carving, granite for the heavy bottom, or hand casting eco friendly gypsum and acrylic composite materials.

4. What is the timeframe if I order a sculpture?

  • Each sculpture is either ready to ship or will be made to order. Please check each listing to see if it will be made for you. If the sculpture needs to be made, please allow 5 months to delivery. Apologies, it literally takes this time due to outsourcing the foundry casting. Good things are worth waiting for!

5. What is a Limited Edition?

  • Each sculpture takes many hours to finish, and therefore each one is offered in a limited edition rather than as a one of a kind. Marinas sculpture Limited Editions are a maximum of 10, meaning no more will ever be made once that figure is reached.

6. What is a Series?

  • Several of Marinas sculpture collections are a series. This means one sculpture is finished to a 1/2 way point, and this is then made to a maximum of 25 times. Each one of the series is then modified and added to, in different themes and moods, to create each sculpture as a unique piece.
  • They truly are one of a kind, but in a series of 25 of the original cast. Examples of Marinas sculpture series are 'Sitting Girl' seen below, and 'Fly Girl'. Each one is numbered within the series, just like a Limited Edition.

7. Certificate of Authenticity

  • Each sculpture comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. This shows the name of the sculpture, the number within its edition or series, the date made, the materials used, and is signed in person by Marina Fox.
